The death of the beloved ruler, Emperor Charles IV. has plunged the kingdom into darkness: war, corruption and discord are ruining the jewel of the empire. Charles' eldest son, Wenceslas, inherits the crown. Unlike his father, he is a naive, promiscuous and unambitious monarch. His half-brother, King Sigismund of Hungary, senses these weaknesses. Posing as goodwill, Sigismund travels to Bohemia and abducts Wenceslas. When the throne is left empty, Sigismund plunders Bohemian lands and appropriates estates. In the midst of this chaos you find yourself - Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Your peaceful life falls to pieces when an invading army, hired by King Sigismund himself, burns your village to the ground. Luck in misfortune, you are one of the few survivors of the massacre. Without a home, a family or a future, you end up in the service of Mr. Radzik Mare, who opposes the incursion of Sigismund's troops into Bohemia.
